Deb Gore Ohrn and her husband, Steve, sat down together recently to discuss and plan their estate. They asked the typical questions. What assets will we be leaving behind? Where can those assets best serve? For years, Deb has been passionate about Women's Leadership Connection at United Way of Central Iowa. She's been a member since 2005. She's co-chaired the committee to raise funds for WLC. She's volunteered and read books to preschoolers.
"I believe the mission to get kids ready for kindergarten is one of the most important things we can do for our community," Deb says.
So, during their estate planning, Deb and Steve took a large step toward furthering that mission. They made a legacy gift to United Way and designated it to the Women's Leadership Connection. They were pleased about, and somewhat surprised by, how easy it was. They could do it as part of their regular estate planning and didn't even have to change their wills.
"It was totally turnkey and we both felt really good about doing it," Deb says. "Whether we're here or not, we know our money will make a lasting contribution to little ones in need."
